New Zealand skincare brands to explore

  • Corbin Rd
Corbin Rd's September 2023 profile introduces a Napier skincare business and its approach to cleansers, exfoliators and hydrators. Compare each product's ingredients and directions.

  • Earthwoven
Earthwoven's September 2023 story looks at its skincare range and formulation work. Ask about the item you are considering, including intended use and manufacturing details.

  • Anihana
Our July 2024 Anihana profile explores solid shampoo and conditioner bars. These belong to a personal-care routine, but compare them for their own purpose rather than treating a haircare bar as a facial cleanser.

Our NZ made products guide connects these stories with other local categories.

Choose the job the product needs to do

  • Cleanser: compare directions, rinse-off or leave-on use, format and ingredients.

  • Moisturiser: check intended area of use, texture, amount and directions.

  • Exfoliating product: check how often the maker directs use and how it fits your routine.

  • Personal-care bar: check its purpose, storage between uses and amount supplied.

Identify the gap in your routine before buying a set. Origin tells you where a product is made; it does not determine whether its formulation suits every person. Compare products intended for the same job.

Read the full label

Look for ingredients, directions, amount supplied, storage instructions and warnings. Check the exact version, especially when several fragrances or formulations are offered. If you have a known ingredient allergy, read the complete list and seek appropriate professional advice about suitability.

Words such as natural, botanical and local can describe different features. Ask whether a claim refers to an ingredient, manufacture or packaging. Keep those questions separate so a local ingredient is not mistaken for a statement about the whole formula.

New Zealand made skincare versus local branding

A local company name or New Zealand-inspired packaging does not establish manufacture. Look for a clear statement about the product and ask which work happens here. Imported ingredients and local manufacture can be part of the same supply chain.

Where the Kiwi trademark is used, search the business in our licence-holder register. Match the product listing to the item you want rather than assuming every item has the same origin.

Compare value and quantity

Compare similar products using the amount supplied and total delivered price. A larger pack may suit something you use regularly; a smaller size may be practical while deciding whether you like its texture and routine. Follow the maker's directions rather than assuming different formats require the same amount.

  • Confirm the quantity in millilitres or grams.

  • Include delivery and any minimum order.

  • Read storage and use-after-opening information.

  • Ask about refills where offered.

  • Choose a quantity you can use within the instructions.

Keep the product information until you know how it fits your routine. Ask the maker about a missing direction rather than improvising a use that the product was not designed for.

Skincare as a gift

Check the recipient's favourite products, fragrance preferences and ingredients they avoid. A product they already enjoy can be more useful than an unfamiliar set. Ask about gift receipts and exchanges before ordering.

Our NZ made gift guide includes home, food and art alternatives. For a workplace, the corporate gift checklist helps account for varied preferences.

Your questions

Does NZ made skincare use only NZ ingredients?

Manufacturing location and ingredient origin are different details. Ask about any ingredient-origin claim that matters to you.

Does the Kiwi trademark tell me a product will suit my skin?

The origin mark does not replace ingredient information and directions. Choose for your needs and seek professional advice where appropriate.

Your next step

Shortlist a product for a clear purpose, read its label and check the maker's details. Our register helps you investigate the origin behind your choice.
