CRONZ: Bespoke custom-made rugs and carpet

Christchurch is home to CRONZ (Carpets and Rugs of New Zealand), makers of beautiful bespoke rugs and carpet, designed and manufactured in New Zealand from New Zealand wool.

CRONZ Director John Wyma saw a gap in the New Zealand market 18 years ago when most rugs were (and still are) imported from overseas. With a background in engineering, John developed a unique tufting machine to manipulate yarn into high quality floor coverings, a process historically done by hand.

Made to Order

All CRONZ products are made to order in New Zealand - a big part of their story. Customers can choose their desired colour, size, shape and pattern and CRONZ will transform these ideas into a product unique to the customer, using nature’s gift of New Zealand wool.

CRONZ Design Consultant Zuzana Chovanova explains: “We use New Zealand wool which is renowned as the best wool around the world, so using this renewable New Zealand resource to produce custom made products here on the spot, right next to where it is grown, is important to us.”

“This adds value to the wool while also supports the local New Zealand market,” said Zuzana.

Proudly New Zealand Made

CRONZ joined Buy New Zealand Made to obtain a licence to use the iconic “New Zealand Made” Kiwi trademark in 2020. Zuzana said using the Kiwi trademark has increased their pride in being a New Zealand manufacturer.

“All new samples & custom rugs now display the Kiwi trademark, as an iron-on label next to a hand-written product label. We also plan to incorporate it more in our admin documents, and use it on newly designed care labels,” said Zuzana.

“In our current world climate we have noticed an increase in desire and need for New Zealand Made. We also brought more credibility with our customers in terms of CRONZ being an authentic NZ design & manufacturing company.”
